Julia’s works closely with creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to help transform their visions into reality with a socially conscious and business-minded perspective. Her priority is to protect clients’ business and intellectual property interests so they can focus on being creative and successful in their own careers. Julia’s practice is strengthened by her Big Island upbringing (and her knowledge of the local cultural and social practices that come with it) and her work experience at Warner Chappell Music, CBS Television Network, and NBCUniversal where she assisted clients with copyright registration, music clearances, licensing and protection, ownership issues, intellectual property enforcement, and a wide variety of contractual arrangements for parties working in the entertainment and media industries. Julia also counsels clients on a variety of business law matters, including business formation, corporate governance, contract drafting and dispute resolution.
Outside of Settle Meyer Law, Julia is an active member of the music and arts community in Hawai’i. She serves on the board of the Kaua’i Music Festival, a non-profit organization that puts on the Hawai’i Songwriting Festival, now held annually on the Big Island. As a lead organizer of this songwriting conference, she connects local songwriters with music industry executives and professional songwriters from the mainland and beyond. She is also a co-director of the Creative Lab Hawai’i Music Immersive, a partnership with the State of Hawai’i that is part of a larger initiative to support economic development in the creative industries throughout the state by cultivating local talent and providing avenues and opportunities for local content creators to find success in the mainstream entertainment industry.
